What is the Teacher Next Door program (TND)?

The Teacher Next Door (TND) program is designed to encourage teachers to buy homes in low and moderate-income neighborhoods in order to help with the revitalization of the area. Participants must purchase homes within the area and/or district in which they teach.

Who can participate?

The TND program is open to any person "employed full-time by a public school, private school, or federal, state, county, or municipal educational agency as a state-certified classroom teacher or administrator in grades K-12."
Participant’s employers must certify that potential buyer is in good standing and a teacher and/or administrator within the institution. Participants of the TND program don't have to be a first-time homebuyer, however, they cannot own any other home at the closing of a TND home. Each participant must agree to live in the HUD home as their only residence for 3-years.

What are the benefits for the teacher?

The benefits for the teacher are that they are able to purchase the property at a 50 percent discount from the list price.
What is the Officer Next Door Program (OND)?
The Officer Next Door Program (OND) has been established to improve neighborhoods and increase safety. The ideal for the program is that police officers will purchase homes and live in a neighborhood upon which safety will improve. The ONP program allows officers to purchase homes in revitalization areas at 50 percent the list price.

Who Can Participate?

All full-time, sworn law enforcement officers who are "employed full-time by a Federal, state, county or municipal government; or a public or private college or university" may participate. You must be "sworn to uphold, and make arrests for violations of, Federal, state, county, or municipal law." Participant’s employers must certify that potential buyer has the general power to arrest. Participants of the OND program don't have to be a first-time homebuyer, however, they cannot own any other home at the closing of a OND home. Each participant must agree to live in the HUD home as their only residence for 3-years.
